Serve your community, join your friends and neighbors and earn some extra money by becoming an Officer of Election on Election Day.  It takes nearly 150 Officers of Election working the 21 precincts to conduct an election in Tazewell County.  Whether you are an employee, retiree, student, or stay at home spouse, your desire to be part of the election process and willingness to work is enough to qualify you for consideration.

What are the qualifications?

​

• Be a registered voter

• Be Committed to the electoral process

• Must not be an elected official or employee of an elected official

• Must be available to serve the entire time the polls are open on Election Day

• Must be able to provide your own transportation to and from the polls on Election Day

What are the responsibilities on Election Day?

 

• Setting Up and closing the polls

• Demonstrating voting equipment

• Providing voter assistance

• Checking in voters

• Overseeing election procedures to ensure a fair and impartial election

• Assisting in certifying the votes cast at the precinct

 

What are the hours?

• Polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

• All Officers of Election must report to the polls by 5:00 a.m. and remain until results are reported after the close of polls at 7:00 p.m.

 

What is the pay?

 

• Compensation ranges from $185 to $260 per election

• Pay rate depends on the position fulfilled

 

Where will I be working?

 

• When possible, Officers of Election are assigned to the polling place in which they vote

• When your "home" precinct is not an option, you would be assigned to a precinct as close to home as possible.

 

What training is required?

 

• Officers of Election may be required to attend instructional training prior to each election served to receive the most up-to-date information available to assist in their duties at the polls

• Training sessions are held between 3 and 30 days before each election

• Multiple times and dates will be offered for training to better suit your schedule
